The Presidential Forum on Diversity presents Barbara Smith: Black Feminism: My Next Chapter. Barbara Smith is an author, activist and scholar.Barbara Smith has played a groundbreaking role in opening national cultural and political dialogue about the intersections of race, class, sexuality and gender. Among the first to define an African American women’s literary tradition and to build black women’s studies and black feminism in the U.S., she has been active in many social justice movements since the 1960s.A resident of Albany, N.Y., she is serving her second term on the city’s Common Council.
